Jewish Life in Speyer
This tour, conducted in cooperation with the Municipal Archive of Speyer, begins with the year 1084. However, its focus rests not only on the well-known Jewish courtyard of the SchUM community which dates to the Middle Ages with its unique ensemble of synagogue, women’s prayer room and ritual bath (Hebr: Mikwe); it also focuses on the life of the community from the 18th century until its destruction in the holocaust as demonstrated by the biographies of Jewish citizens. The path then leads to today’s “Beith Shalom” synagogue with its living Jewish community.
